Common Problems With Your Vehicle’s AC System

As summer is already in full swing, you might already have some plans for yourself and your family. It can be a trip to Mount Rushmore or some of the nearby National Parks. Or it may be the regular work commute. One thing’s for sure: you’ll want your AC system running perfectly to keep you cool. At J&M Auto Service, your auto service shop in Tea, SD, we will help you keep your AC system working properly when you bring your vehicle into our shop.

The last thing you want to deal with is an air conditioning system on the fritz or might not work at all. You need to be aware of a few common problems when it comes to your car’s AC. If you live in the Sioux Falls, SD or Harrisburg, SD area, J&M Transmission, and Auto Service is your go-to shop for all of your AC needs.

Let’s take a look at some common issues that could happen with your AC if nothing is done:

1. A failing AC system compressor clutch

If there’s a problem with your AC compressor clutch, then you’ll need to have that fixed for your AC to work properly. The clutch is located near a pulley where the AC compressor is located.

This problem can be due to a bad clutch, a poor sensor, no refrigerant, or a poor AC thermostat. Our qualified mechanics will look over each part of your AC system to determine the problem and fix it on the spot.

Any replaced parts that J&M Auto Service installs will be backed by a 3 year/36,000-mile warranty. Also, financing options are available for easy payments if you need something set up.

2. Not blowing cool air at all

Usually, your AC doesn’t blow cold air at all. Sometimes it might not even be blowing hot air either.

This can be due to the following problems: low to no refrigerant, faults within the control circuit, or a bad compressor (as mentioned in the previous issue). Another common cause can be clogging that can occur due to dust, dirt, and debris buildup within your engine. That can cause major problems if nothing is taken care of.

3. AC is blowing at the same speed

Let’s say that you want the AC on at full blast. But the speed doesn’t increase. No matter which level you set it to, the speed is the same.

One of two problems could be occurring at this point: you could have a faulty resistor block or a bad switch. Either way, these need to be repaired or replaced. At J&M Auto Service, we offer stand-alone vehicle AC checks in Tea, SD, and the surrounding area. If you want a full preventative maintenance inspection, you can get this at no extra cost.

4. Strange noises

Ah yes…strange noises are coming from the AC. This can be due to a variety of causes. Among the most common include parts that are worn down or loose. You may also have a loose belt under the hood, or you might have too much refrigerant in your engine.

These problems can be diagnosed in your vehicle’s owner manual if you have it handy. However, to save you time and further damage, you should get it looked at as soon as possible.
