Signs My Car Needs a New Engine Installed

If your car, truck, or utility vehicle is invaluable to you, there will come a time when you need to replace the engine so you can keep driving it. J&M Auto Service can help determine when that time has come and can replace the engine for you. We can also partially rebuild the engine if the issue is limited to a specific system. Let’s talk about the signs that your car needs a new engine below.

Excessive Engine Exhaust

One of the things that should never happen is you should not see a ton of exhaust flowing out of the tailpipe. If you do, your engine is hemorrhaging automotive fluid. The exact automotive fluids that will cause the engine to release excess exhaust are coolant, fuel, and motor oil. The exhaust color will be white, black, or blue, respectively, if your engine is hemorrhaging one of these fluids. Generally, a leak this bad is caused by a blown head gasket or cracked engine gasket.

Inability to Produce Power/Torque

Your vehicle’s engine may also come to a point where it is no longer able to produce power. Unfortunately, there will not be a fix to get the engine to produce torque once again. An inability to produce power can be a sign that the engine has reached the end of its life.

Knocking Noises All the Time

You also should not hear knocking noises coming from your engine all the time. If you do, you may have a serious problem that is damaging the cylinder blocks. The pistons are attached to rods that move them up and down inside the cylinders. If the bearings that move the rods are worn out, you may have uneven movement in the cylinders. In other words, the pistons are making knocking noises because they are banging against the cylinder walls from the inside.

Metallic Noise/Metal in the Oil

If you have a problem with the rods or rod bearings, we may be able to resolve the issue with a partial engine rebuild by replacing the cylinder blocks. If you hear metallic noises coming from the engine and you see metal flakes in your motor oil, there is no fix for this. In this case, your engine must be replaced because the metal parts are dissolving into the motor oil.

J&M Auto Service in Tea, SD, is here to help if your vehicle is having any of the problems listed above or if it is overheating all the time. We will inspect your engine to see if it can be repaired or must be replaced.
