A car that overheats all the time is a sign of a car that needs a new radiator. If your vehicle is 10 years old, the radiator has reached the end of its life span. Some radiators do not last this long; others last longer. Either way, one sign that your radiator is going bad is your automobile overheating all the time. We are going to list below the other signs that your radiator is going bad so you know what else to look for in your automobile. Do not worry. We are cooling system experts, and we can help.
Leaking Coolant
The radiator may start to leak coolant if the bottom has rusted out. This is a common problem with older radiators. If you see coolant spots or puddles on the garage floor underneath your automobile toward the front of the engine, the coolant is likely leaking out of the radiator. Unfortunately, a corroded radiator cannot be repaired. It needs to be replaced.
Orange Coolant
Your radiator may not be leaking yet. This does not mean that it is not corroded on the inside. If the radiator is 10 years old, check the coolant in the radiator when the engine is cold. If the radiator has a ton of rust building up inside of it, the coolant will look orange. In fact, you may be able to see the rust floating in the coolant. A rusted radiator needs to be replaced.
Clogged Inlets
Another problem that requires a new radiator is clogged fins. These fins are air inlets that draw air in to cool off the coolant. In some cases, we may be able to resolve the problem if we can get the air inlets clean. This being said, if we are unable to do so, we will need to replace the radiator. The fins and radiator are all one part. They are not separate.
Damaged Inlets
Finally, the fins can also get damaged by road debris. When this happens, it can actually dent them closed. Unfortunately, this is a problem that is usually irreparable. As such, we will recommend a new radiator for your automobile.
