Reasons to Replace Your Car’s Engine

Most people get rid of their automobiles once the engine goes bad to the point that it needs to be replaced. For some, however, their car, truck, or utility vehicle has special meaning and they replace the engine so they can keep driving it. J&M Transmission & Auto Service can rebuild or replace your car’s engine if it is having any of the following problems. These problems are generally final signs of an engine that can no longer be repaired.

Constant Overheating

If your vehicle overheats all the time and you’ve had the cooling system replaced, it’s possible that you have cracked the engine block. A cracked engine block requires a new engine to repair the problem. Other causes of constant overheating are a cracked head gasket are cracked exhaust manifold gasket. These parts can be replaced with extensive engine repairs.

Excessive Engine Exhaust

Another sign that your engine is too old is excessive exhaust flowing out of the tailpipe. Any time you see a ton of black exhaust smoke coming out of the tailpipe, your engine has a fuel leak somewhere and is burning away the excess fuel. If the exhaust color is blue or gray, you likely have a cracked head gasket and oil flowing into the cylinders. Finally, white exhaust means you have a coolant hemorrhage.

Extreme Power Loss

At some point, your car’s engine may lose power and simply be unable to regain it. There may be nothing wrong with the engine other than the fact that it is too old. As with any piece of machinery, your automobile’s engine will eventually reach the end of its life. When this happens, you may find it nearly impossible to get the engine to generate power and the vehicle to accelerate.

Loud Knocking Noises

Loud knocking noises can be an indication that there is a problem in the cylinder block. Specifically, the rod bearings may have worn out and, as a consequence, the rods are crashing the pistons against the cylinder walls. Unfortunately, this can cause serious damage to the cylinder block. The cylinder block can be replaced, but it takes extensive engine repair work.

Metal in the Motor Oil

Finally, there is no way around replacing the engine if there is metal in the motor oil. Unfortunately, your engine is disintegrating. When this happens, replacing the engine is the only solution.
