Constant Overheating

For example, if your engine is overheating constantly and the cooling system has been replaced, it’s possible that you have a cracked engine block. Repairing this problem requires a partial engine rebuild at a minimum. In some cases, we may need to replace the engine completely depending on the condition of the entire engine. It’s important that you avoid driving your automobile if it is overheating.

Excessive Exhaust

If you see a ton of exhaust in your rearview mirror, your engine is hemorrhaging either fuel, oil, or coolant. This can be a sign that you have a cracked engine gasket, a cracked head gasket, a cracked cylinder block, or other severe damage. It’s important that you avoid driving your automobile when is releasing excessive exhaust, as well. Driving the vehicle can cause further damage.

Knocking Noises

Constant knocking noises can be an indication that you have an issue brewing in the cylinder block. Specifically, the pistons are crashing against the cylinder walls and this is the knocking sound that you hear. When this happens, the pistons will eventually damage the cylinders. The cause of this is worn rod bearings that are no longer able to move the rods and pistons up and down evenly.

Metal in the Oil

We may be able to replace the cylinder block if the pistons damage it, but we cannot repair your engine if there is metal in the motor oil. Unfortunately, this is a sign that the engine must be replaced because it is dissolving into the motor oil as the oil circulates through it. There is no fix for this.

Significant Power Loss

Finally, your automobile’s engine may lose power constantly simply because it is no longer able to produce power. There will come a time when the engine has reached the end of its life and it doesn’t produce power anymore. This is a definite sign that you need a new engine.
