What can J&M Transmission tell me about tires?

Have you heard the phrase “Where the rubber meets the road”? Literally, tires are the only contact point between your vehicle and the road you are driving on. They are quite important for your safety and greatly affect your vehicle’s handling abilities. Tires need routine maintenance and J&M Transmission of Tea, South Dakota is happy to help you find the right rights. We have outstanding reviews from customers in Sioux Falls, South Dakota too.

How can I tell I have a tire problem?

There are a variety of ways to tell if your tires are becoming an issue

Rough Ride

Has your vehicle’s smooth ride changed a bit? Round, evenly worn tires should still drive smoothly. If your vehicle doesn’t turn as smooth as it used to, it could be a sign that it needs to come to J&M Transmission. Our ASE Certified Technicians know tires and alignments well and can figure out the problem with you. A rough ride is often caused by uneven wear and means you should have rotated your tires. J&M Transmission can also help with this along with your routine oil change.

Starting and Stopping

Does your vehicle slip a bit at start, especially under heavier acceleration? Do you slide a little at stop signs, or when just slowing down? Old tires are most likely the issues. We can take a look at your tires and measure the tread depth. Your tread depth should be at least 4/32 as measured by a tread depth gauge – and we can even show you how! A penny can also be used to help determine tread depth. Holding the penny upside down, you should not be able to see the top of Abraham Lincoln’s head.  We suggest measuring in multiple areas to ensure your tread depth is the same

Visual Problems

Any obvious cracks in the outer surface of your tire should be looked at by J&M. Your vehicle also likely has a tire pressure monitor system that will tell you if these problems are causing low pressure. If you notice a visible low tire without those sensors going off, bring your vehicle to J&M Transmission and we can look at your sensors too.
